KATHMANDU, July 22: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has said that the dignity of the President and the country’s republican system should not be drawn into unnecessary political debate. Speaking at a party meeting that began at UML headquarters, Chyasal on Monday, Oli reportedly said former President Bidya Devi Bhandari should not take part in active politics.
“During yesterday’s meeting, Bhandari was informed about the politburo’s decisions. It was also clearly mentioned that the dignity of the President, national politics, and our republican system should not be dragged into controversy. She said she would think about it and share her views later. The party will decide further after hearing from her,” said a source quoting Oli as saying.

Oli also said the meeting was held at Bhandari’s request. “She proposed the meeting herself. When asked about the location, she said she hadn’t visited the party office in a long time, so we met there,” Oli reportedly said.
He added that a few dissatisfied groups were seen during Bhandari’s visit to the office. “Some of them had lost elections. They were also seen at Pashupatinath,” the source quoted Oli as saying.
