KATHMANDU, July 9: CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has accused CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal of paving a path to bring the country to its knees.

Arguing that the Secretary at the Finance Ministry was not allowed to prepare the budget and that the tax rates and excise duty were manipulated by the representatives of business houses, Chairman Oli said that it was proof that the country was heading towards a serious crisis. “There was no point in taking up arms by the Maoists as the UML has shown and proved that the country can be run in a peaceful environment. The Maoist armed conflict was fought only to satisfy the desires of a limited number of people,” he said.

While questioning the rationale behind taking up arms for 10 years, Chairman Oli accused CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal of taking up arms to kill the party's political activists. “Prachandra is working on the path to bring the country to its knees. Only intellect like him can commit such a crime,” he said.

Oli alleged that the government is now running on the deception of such people and the world is just watching. “There is no shame. Instead, he has the audacity to say this happened against me in the rostrum in parliament. Let us see what happens next? I didn’t ask for the resignation of Janardhan Sharma. I just wanted a proper investigation to be conducted,” he said.

Chairman Oli claimed that the violence perpetrated by the Maoists in the name of people's war was not a people's war. He said that the Maoists had acted against the public interest in the name of people’s war and mercilessly killed thousands of Nepali people for the vested interests of limited people.
