KATHMANDU, August 25: Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, who has formed a new party, the CPN (United Socialist), after splitting from the CPN-UML, has claimed that KP Sharma Oli is the reason behind the party split. He said that he has been against the Oli trend and had decided to form a new party due the Oli’s alliance with the right wing forces.

Speaking at a press conference held at Chandragiri with the party’s central members on Tuesday, leader Nepal said that there are two factions with the CPN-UML, a right-wing and a revolutionary group. Although Nepal was in favour of moving forward with the revolutionary and democratic left-wing forces, he said that Oli has become an obstacle by supporting the right-wing forces.

Nepal also accused Oil of ending the revolutionary line within the party. “In the process, Oli’s alliance with the right-wing forces began to grow. This has led to the existence of two factions in a party. He is thinking of ending the revolutionary line within the party,” Nepal said.

Nepal said that the decision of the Supreme Court has created a different situation inside the county and caused the division of the CPN-UML. The problem in the country increased after Oli tried to capture the party, Nepal said. He also blamed Oli for the split in the party stating that the party’s chairman has been thinking of the party as his own private company.

“Decisions made by Oli after March 12 have become an obstacle in the process of the party’s unity. Anyone who doesn't worship Oli is considered an enemy by him. He thinks of the party as his private company. As a result, a huge problem has evolved in the party,” Nepal said. “Similar to the 2nd General Convention, when Pushpalal revolted from within the party as it couldn't be transformed due to Keshar Jung Rayamajhi. Pushpalal formed a new party in which we took part as well,” Nepal said.

“We revolted at the time as well. After the revolution, CPN-UML was formed and came out as the country’s major political force. We made a new history at the time,” he said. Although there is a need to revolutionize and transform the party, it is not possible under the leadership of KP Sharma Oli,” he added.
