KATHMANDU, Feb 1: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to consider the dignity and decorum of his office before making 'reckless' comments in public.

Speaking at a press meet organized by the party's publicity department to unveil the schedule of a two-week long Mechi-Mahakali National Campaign on Wednesday, Oli strongly objected to the speech made on Tuesday by the prime minister at the meeting of the Young Communist League (YCL), the youth wing of the CPN (Maoist Center), in Kathmandu.

We are not making any provocative statements although we are in the opposition, but the prime minister has incited the YCL to go on offensive, said Oli.

Dahal on Tuesday had asked YCL cadres to retaliate against "rightist elements" and to begin the retaliation from the upcoming election of the Free Students Unions at universities.

"How can a prime minister give such order to his cadres," asked Oli. He claimed that the prime minister and his cadres are afraid of the nationalist agendas raised by the UML.

He also criticized the ruling coalition for not giving the chair of the parliamentary public accounts committee to the opposition party. "The ruling coalition is unique and brazen enough to break with the parliamentary tradition. They don't need an opposition," said Oli.

During the press meet, the UML unveiled the schedule of the campaign, which is said to be for strengthening national unity and sovereignty as well as for creating an environment for implementing the constitution. The campaign will begin from Kakarbhitta, Jhapa in eastern Nepal on March 4 and conclude on March 18 in Surkhet in midwestern Nepal. According to the party, the campaign includes mass meetings in various places including Inaruwa, Rajbiraj, Janakpur, Garuda, Jeetpur, Bhairahawa, Chandrauta, Ghorahi, Nepalgunj, Gulariya, Tikapur, Rajapur, Dhangadhi and Mahendranagar of Tarai-Madhes districts.

The party has formed a steering committee for the campaign comprising party chairman Oli, senior leaders Jhalanath Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal as well as leaders Bamdev Gautam, Astalaxmi Shakya, Subash Nembang, Chhabilal Biswakarma, Satya Narayan Mandal and General Secretary Ishwar Pokahrel.
