KATHMANDU, Feb 14: Chairman of the main opposition party CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli has alleged that the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana was aimed at deferring the local level election.

Addressing a meeting of the UML Parliamentary Party (PP) on Monday, Chairman Oli argued that the decision of the ruling alliance to register an impeachment motion against Rana was aimed at deferring the local level election announced for May 13.

Chairman Oli, however, clarified that the party had no intention of carrying the Chief Justice Rana, according to Bhattarai.

Bhattarai also said that the impeachment motion was introduced with the intention of deferring the local level election and endorsing the US's Millennium Challenge Corporation compact. He also clarified that the UML was pursuing a "wait and see" policy until the ruling coalition comes to a consensus on the MCC project.

Members of parliament such as Bhim Rawal, Ghanshyam Bhusal, Mahesh Basnet, Gokul Baskota, Jhapat Rawal, Bimala Vishwakarma and others had expressed their views during the meeting.
