OKHALDHUNGA, April 2: The authorities are planning to construct an integrated settlement for 53 earthquake victim families of three local units in Okhaldhunga. In association with the district-based National Reconstruction Department (NRD); the local governments of Champadevi, Molung and Chisankhugadi rural municipalities have already allocated land for the reconstruction project.
Seventy-five of the total 193 families victimized by the earthquake have already been provide the ownership certificates for their new homes already. The rest of the families are living in temporary shelters.
Quake victims pressing for building integrated settlement
The families who had lost their homes as well as their lands to post-earthquake landslides will be provided houses in the settlement. Self Dependence Service Center's (SDSC) coordinator Bhola Basnet confirmed the purchases of lands for Champadevi-9, Bilandu's 23 families; Melung-3 Prapcha's 15 families and Chisankhugadi's 15 families. Basnet also informed that families that are unwilling to be a part of the integrated settlement will also get a land worth Rs 2 million each and would be provided assistance for the construction of their homes. Sunita Adhikari, information officer of the District Project Implementation Unit (DPIU) confirmed that the funding for the Model Villages has been made available by the NRA and DPIU (Grant management and physical infrastructure).
DPIU and NRD of Okhaldhunga have reportedly begun the procedure to purchase more land for more such integrated settlements for the remaining victims.
