KATHMANDU, Sept 6: The Nepal Shipping Office inaugurated by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli three year ago has spent almost Rs 30 million in a year despite no works at all. The Office of the Auditor General in its annual report revealed that the Nepal Shipping Office has spent Rs 28.2 million in a year. Last year, the office had purchased two vehicles worth Rs 14.3 million.
The office has over 16 employees. However, there is a lack of employees at the office as officers have not shown any interest to work there. Those who are posted at the office have also not shown any interest to work in a proactive manner.
The Nepal Shipping Office had drafted a law and forwarded it to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure to revise the Shipping Registration Act-1971 over a year ago. However, the ministry has not shown any interest to revise the law. That is the only work done by the office in the last three years.
Bipin Raj Bhandari is currently the registrar of the office. The office was inaugurated by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in 2018.
