TIKAPUR, August 2: In the recent days, Tikapur Eye Care Center is witnessing extensively high number of eye patients.
As per the details provided by the center which is associated with Geta Eye Hospital, around 200 patients visit the center on a regular basis. Most of the patients are suffering from conjunctivitis, informed Lok Pun, an eye specialist. According to him, the increase in number of patients has made it challenging for them to provide timely treatment to all.

There are only seven medical officers in the center who have been looking after all the patients. Lack of enough manpower is posing more problems for the center. “There is a long queue of patients from early morning till late evening,” said Pun. According to the center, they have only two eye specialists who have to provide service to more than 3,500 patients in a year.
Patients from Lamki, Sukkhad, Bhajani, Joshipur and Chisapani and various other places of neighboring district Bardiya and Surkhet come here for treatment. After the construction of a concrete bridge in Nepal-India border, even the patients from Tikuniya and Belariya of India come to the center for treatment.
According to Chandrabati Sharma, a local, the eye treatment center has not just helped them save money but also their time. Sharma stressed on the need to increase the human resource at the center to provide better and effective service. This eye center has been conducting eye surgery of patients once a month which is done by the doctors of Geta Eye Hospital.
Since its establishment in 2005, this center has facilitated a great number of eye patients in and outside the district. Earlier, locals either had to go to Geta or Nepalgunj-based Fateh Bal Eye Hospital for treatment.
