KATHMANDU, May 12: Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) will arrange the airport shuttle bus service for tourists on the day of local level elections.

According to NTB, it will arrange shuttle bus service on Sunday for the comfort of the tourists coming to Nepal and going out of Nepal. According to Sharad Pradhan, media consultant of NTB, the election commission has already granted permission to the board to operate shuttle service from 6 am on Sunday from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to different hotels of Kathmandu and Lalitpur in coordination with Tourist Police.

“The general public and tourists will not be allowed to use the bus service. One should pay Rs 300 to use the shuttle service. The Election Commission (EC) has said that no one can be picked and dropped in between the route, said Pradhan adding that the shuttle service will be beneficial for both domestic and international air passengers.

According to the NTB, there will be three routes in operation from TIA. The first route is from TIA to Hotel Annapurna, Hotel Yak and Yeti and Hotel Shanker and back to TIA. The second route is from TIA to Hotel Shangrila, Hotel Hyatt Regency and Hotel Dwarika and back to TIA and the third one is from TIA to Hotel Everest, Hotel Himalaya, and Hotel Soaltee and Hotel Grand and back to TIA.

The EC had already decided to prohibit the operation of vehicles in 34 districts of Provinces 3, 4 and 6 on Election Day on Sunday. The commission had decided to stop vehicular movement from Saturday midnight to Sunday midnight. However, the operation of ambulances and vehicles used by security agencies, emergency services and the press are allowed after they get approval from the concerned authorities. EC has already issued a circular to the security agencies including traffic police to monitor this prohibition. The prohibition, however, is not for vehicles providing emergency services like ambulances and water tankers among others.
