Nepal had lost 3-1 to India in the final of the championship. Jamuna Gurung, Nisha Bohara, Anjali Waiba, Rina Gubhaju, Usha Bhandari, Namita Kumari Dali, Pramila Rai, Yashoda Lama, Sajana Rana, Niru Thapa, Laxmi Kumari Paudel, Krishna Khatri, Dhim Kumari Gurung, Tulasa Singh, Chandra Devi Dahal, Deepa Adhikari, Lila Lamgade, Bhagawati Thapa, Chandra Bhandari and Anu Lama were the members of the silver medalist team. Kishor KC and Kumar Katuwal were the team´s coaches while Bimala Paudel was the manager.
Likewise, Gurung was awarded Rs 100,000. She had claimed bronze medal in the Eighth Asian Wushu Championship held in Vietnam from August 21 to 28, 2012.
Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Hari Prasad Nepal, NSC Vice-president Pitambar Timalsina, Member Secretary Lama, Treasurer Indra Bahadur Thing and All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Ganesh Thapa handed over the awards to the players.
Speaking at the function, Secretary Nepal informed that the government has decided to waive tax on the awards given to players from this fiscal year. "We hope such awards will encourage players to do better," said Nepal. He claimed that the government is mulling developing infrastructure, trainings, tournaments and motivational packages to encourage players.
Member Secretary Lama said NSC would spend the budget allocated for infrastructure development also to develop football infrastructure. He added that NSC and ANFA would come up with a special training program for the national football team in future.
NSC also felicitated ultra-runner Sanjay Pandit during the function for his successful ascent of Mt Everest on May 19, 2013. Pandit had taken a flag of NSC to the summit and he returned the flag to NSC Member Secretary Lama on Sunday.
NSC to organize national tournament from Nov 1
