KATHMANDU, July 24: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has removed households failing to sign grant agreement for private housing by July 6 from the beneficiary list.

Similarly, beneficiaries who have not taken their first tranches by July 16 have also been removed from the list, the authority stated.

According to the NRA, 56,309 beneficiaries have not signed the grant agreement even though they were listed in the beneficiary list. Of the total 826,833 beneficiaries, 769,624 have signed the grant agreement.

On the other hand, 5,540 beneficiaries have signed the grant agreement but have not taken the first tranches, as per the NRA statistics.

Manohar Ghimire, deputy spokesperson at NRA said, "The households failing to sign the grant agreement and take first tranches have been removed from the list, in order to implement the decisions made by the authority."

The NRA had extended the deadline to sign the grant agreement till July 6 for beneficiaries who came into contact with local ward offices and were listed till June 15. Likewise, the authority had set July 16 as the deadline to receive their first tranches for beneficiaries who have already signed the grant agreement.

The NRA has directed all the bodies to postpone the work of providing agreement and tranches to the ones who have not signed grant agreement and taken first tranches on time.

However, the NRA has provided an alternative to those who have not come for agreement and tranches: the missed beneficiaries can submit an application stating enough reasons for the delay. The authority will then take necessary decision after analyzing the application.

“The NRA will continue the service of providing grant agreement and first tranches to the beneficiaries listed after July 16,” Ghimire said.

The NRA had surveyed 996,582 households for the identification of the beneficiaries, and later identified 61,891 as retrofitting beneficiaries. The authority had 237,085 grievance registered of which 205,584 have been redressed. There are 826,941 households eligible for housing grants. The NRA has signed grant agreement with 770,090 beneficiaries as of July 23.

Earthquake survivors have to contact their respective ward offices for the grant agreement. The authority has been requesting beneficiaries to complete the reconstruction of their private housing by signing grant agreement and taking first tranches on time.
