SC directs govt to fortify Phewa Lake within six months

The Supreme Court has ordered the government to fortify the shrinking Phewa Lake within six months. The country's apex court today published the full verdict of a writ petition filed by advocate Khagendra Subedi.  The lake's area had been continuously encroached by private landowners and hotels. Within a half-century, the lake's size had decreased from 10 sq. km. in 1960, receded to 4.2 sq km in 2007.

Home Minister Thapa initiates 'Clean, Healthy and Safe Bhaktapur’ campaign

A month-long 'Clean, Healthy and Safe Bhaktapur Campaign' has begun here from today. Launching the campaign by sweeping the road at Manohara bridge of Lokanthali this morning, Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa handed over the materials used for cleaning like brooms and gloves to campaigners. 

Lamichhane shines in Kerala's win, grabs man of the match award

Nepali leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane grabbed three wickets and also the man of the match award in Kerala Kings' win against Pakhtoons. Kings won with an eight-wicket over Pakhtoons at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday in their T10 League title defense. Pakhtoons scored 109 runs in 10 overs.

PM Oli to address first ever eco-friendly Climate Summit to urge for greater action on global warming

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will address the first ever Virtual Climate Summit -- held entirely online to ensure it is carbon neutral -- at 8: 15 PM NST. Despite Nepal's dismal contribution to Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, it is ranked as the fourth most vulnerable country to climate change in the world.  Nepal's GHG emission is around 0.027 percent of the global emission.  

64 cases of HR violations in Nawalpur

A total of 64 cases of human rights violations have been reported in Nawalpur district in the past 11 months, the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) said. Of them, most of the affected ones are children and women. The INSEC officials shared this at a program organized for the Human Rights Year Book, 2019 pre-review meeting in Nawalpur district. 

Former Chelsea striker Drogba announces retirement at 40

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba announced his retirement on Wednesday, calling time on a 20-year career in which the bullish center-forward won four Premier League titles and the 2012 Champions League. Ivorian Drogba, who had been playing in the United States for Phoenix Rising, had two spells at Chelsea, scoring 164 goals in 381 games having spearheaded the west London club’s revival under owner Roman Abramovich.
