US condemns series of attack on candidates, urges for peaceful election in Nepal

The United States has urged all stakeholders for the peaceful conduction of the upcoming elections of Federal Parliament and Provincial Assembly. In a statement issued by the US embassy on Monday, it has been stated that the US government is alarmed at recent attacks on political candidates and has condemned any attempt to impede the electoral process through the use of violence. Likewise, the US government has called on all sides to maintain and uphold a peaceful and democratic election process for both rounds of upcoming elections.

Prime Minister directs for security arrangement

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has directed the security officials to provide full security to the people in view of upcoming elections. Addressing the security seminar of province no 3 for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies here in the capital Monday, Prime Minister Deuba directed the security officials to create peaceful environment for voting by guaranteeing the security for the people as different groups including Biplav-led party were exercising to disrupt the elections. 

Oli claims strong economy in Communist rule

Chair KP Sharma Oli has assured of a strong economy once a Communist government was formed. Taking part in an interaction organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry ( FNCCI) in the capital on Monday, leader Oli said it was wrong to claim that the nation's economy would get into a mess if the Communists came into power. There would be no strike and shutdown in the Communists-headed government, he claimed, pledging employment opportunities at home for four million youths who have gone for abroad jobs. 

EC and NHRC hold discussions

Office-bearers of the Election Commission (EC) and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) have discussed the overall preparations and situation of upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies. A team led by the chairperson of NHRC Anupraj Sharma here today enquired about the different issues including upcoming elections, security system, voters education and election code of conduct with Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav and other commissioners. 

16th White Water Challenge from tomorrow

The 16th Himalayan White Water Challenge (HWCC), a rafting festival, is kicking off in the Trishuli River from tomorrow. The Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) is organizing the three-day event (Nov 21-23) to be held the Trishuli (from Dhading to Chitwan). The main objective of the festival is to promote adventurous water rafting tourism, enhance the skills of river guides and athletes, establish Nepal as the best destination of adventurous water tourism and promote domestic and international tourism through the means of adventurous water rafting, as the NARA states. 

Suu Kyi blames world conflicts partly on illegal immigration

Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi said the world is facing instability and conflict in part because illegal immigration spreads terrorism in a speech Monday that comes as her country is accused of violently pushing out hundreds of thousands of unwanted Rohingya Muslims. Suu Kyi did not directly mention the refugee exodus as she welcomed European and Asian foreign ministers to Naypyitaw, the capital of Myanmar. But her speech highlighted the views of many in Myanmar who see the Rohingya as illegal immigrants and blame the population for terrorist acts.
