Candidacy filed with enormous joy for second phase elections

Filing of nominations by candidates to contest the second round of the elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies completed peacefully in 45 districts.  Candidates from major political parties had filed their candidacy for upcoming elections in 45 districts. Registration of candidacies for the first-past-the-post system under the second phase of the House of Representatives and State Assembly elections scheduled for December 7 started today. 

Petroleum price hike withdrawn on PM's directive

The Nepal Oil Corporation has today withdrawn its decision of increasing the price of petroleum products, which was enforced from Wednesday mid-night, on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba's direction. The NOC had increased the price of LP gas by Rs 25 per cylinder, petrol by Rs 2 per liter and diesel and kerosene by Rs 1.50 per liter to be effective from Wednesday mid-night as per the automatic pricing system. 

Youth held with 17 kg gold

Police have arrested a youth with 17 kilograms of gold from Khudi Bazaar, northern Village Development Committee of the district. The arrested is 31-year-old Pasang Lama of Danakyu of Nasong Rural Municipality. The gold must have been brought to Nepal through Nepal-China border Manang, said police. Lama was intercepted with the gold during a security check while he was heading to Besisahar on a motorbike from Manang. According to DSP Padam Bahadur Bista, Lama was carrying 17 pieces of lockets concealed in a bag.

Lamichhane shines in defeat against Bangladesh

Nepal U-19’s leg-spin bowler Sandeep Lamichhane and spinners could not prevent a closely contested first practice match going the Bangladesh way. Towhid Hridley held on to an end guiding Bangladesh to a win by three wickets after Sandeep Lamichhane finished his match figures of 10-1-25-4. Bangladesh had won the toss and elected to field. Nepal finished the total on 153 runs losing nine wickets playing all 50 over.

Squad for World T20 Asia Qualifiers announced

The final squad of 14 players is announced for upcoming Women's World T20 Asia Qualifier 2017. The women's premier tournament is set to be held in Thailand from 20 to 27 November. Rubina Chhetry Belbashi has been named the captain of the side to lead in November whilst Sita Rana Magar has been named her deputy for the Thailand tour. Kabita Kunwar, Nitu Bhandari, and Rekha Rawal have been announced as reserves for the World T20 qualifier. The Selection committee was headed by the ICC Representative Aminul Islam, Head Coach of  Nepal national men's team Jagat Tamatta, coach of Nepal women's cricket team Samson Jung Thapa & Skipper of the touring side Rubina Chhetry Belbashi.​

Suu Kyi visits Myanmar region torn by Rohingya conflict

Aung San Suu Kyi made her first visit as Myanmar’s leader Thursday to the conflict-torn region where more than half a million Rohingya Muslims have fled state-led violence that has spiraled into Asia’s worst refugee crisis in decades. Her visit to Rakhine state comes as Suu Kyi is under intense international scrutiny for her response to the exodus, which the U.N. has called “ethnic cleansing,” and as her government said it is working on a plan to repatriate those who fled to Bangladesh.
