Deepak Karki, who owns a vegetable shop for his livelihood, met the tragic end at Chabahil on Friday evening. Despite effort for prompt treatment, he could not overcome the wounds sustained in the attack.
Karki was heading to a repair workshop with his friend on the backseat of his motorcycle. Before they entered the workshop, the gang blocked their way. Harassed, they tried to flee but in vain. The gang of around 12 persons chased him, knocked him down and attacked with swords before fleeing.
Though Karki was immediately rushed to the Medicare Hospital after the incident, he was declared dead at 7:30 p.m. within less than two hours of the incident.
The incident comes in less than four days after the lynching of three boys by a ruthless crowd on charge of kidnapping in Thimi of Bhaktapur on Tuesday.
According to preliminary investigations, the police have said the victim had acrimony with a few key members of the gang in the past.
Karki, 26, hails from Sarlahi and her wife is seven-month pregnant. After getting married last year, he had started a vegetable store near Ganeshthan Temple at Chabahil. The gang´s key members -- Suman and Sundar Khadka of Nayapati VDC in Kathmandu -- have a criminal record, an officer at Metropolitan Police Sector Gaushala says. Police have on Sunday filed a murder case against all 12 persons including the Khadka brothers. However, none of the members has been arrested so far.
According to the police, Khadka brothers´ gang has a notorious image in Chabahil area for terrorizing the locality over a few years. Sensing that the gang members might be taking refuge outside the valley, a special team of the police has been mobilized for a search for them.
