Nominees for People’s Choice Award announced

KATHMANDU, June 3: Nepal Sports Journalist Forum (NSJF) has announced the nominees for People’s Choice Awards for the Pulsar Sports Award 2019. 

The announcement was made at an event held in Kathmandu on Sunday.

Cricket’s Sandeep Lamichhane, badminton’s Prince Dahal, football’s Sabitra Bhandari, volleyball’s Reshma Bhandari, and bodybuilding’s Mahesh Maharjan were nominated for the most coveted sports award in the country.

Lamichhane has been a globetrotting cricketer of Nepal representing the nation at the international arena as well as in global T20 marquee leagues including Indian Premier League.

Meanwhile, Dahal wrote his name in the history book of Nepali sport being the first ever Nepali to win gold at U-15 Dubai Junior International Series. Similarly, he won gold medals at U-15 and U-19 President’s Cup Junior International Badminton Championship. 

He remained invincible in domestic badminton, winning golds at Eighth Pushpa Lal Memorial National Badminton and First Durga Devi International Open Men’s Singles.

Likewise, Sabitra Bhandari helped Nepal finish as runner-up at Hero World Cup held at India. She finished as the highest goal-scorer in the Women’s SAFF Championship held in Biratnagar, Nepal.
Reshma played a key role in Armed Police Force Club’s 10 title wins in national volleyball tournaments throughout the year.

Last but not the least, Maharjan made Nepal proud in 10th World Body Building and Physique Championship winning the gold medal in 75-kg category.

The winner will be decided by SMS voting, Facebook likes (four likes equal one vote), votes from the NSJF members, and head coaches of the sports disciplines which were part of the Eighth National Games. The SMS voting and Facebook likes will carry a weight of 50% and the votes from NSJF and coaches will carry the other half.

The 16th NSJF Pulsar Sports Award 2019, which felicitates the coaches and players contributing the most in Nepali sports in the past year, was announced to be held on July 2.

It is set to add one more award category this year, taking the total number of awards to 10. The new category includes International Asian Sports Journalist award. 

The other awards include the best men’s and women’s players, the best young player, the best coach, para-athlete award, special award, team of the year, and lifetime achievement award apart from the new category. 

The best players in men’s and women’ categories, the best coach and the winner of the People’s Choice Award will be rewarded with a Pulsar bike each, while the winners of other categories will get Rs 50,000 each. 

The award ceremony will be held at Nepal Academy Hall in Kamaladi, 
Kathmandu.
