POKHARA, Oct 11: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has warned no one to dream of going against democracy. Addressing a program organized in Pokhara on Sunday to declare Gandaki a literate state, Prime Minister Deuba said, “Everyone has heard that there can be no alternative to democracy. Some people should quit dreaming of going against democracy. Democracy is the only alternative to democracy. Let this be clear.”

Prime Minister Deuba said that federalism was yet to be fully implemented. He pointed out the need to move ahead with development programs as soon as possible with the implementation of federalism. “Even though Nepal has not been protected from the COVID-19, which has spread all over the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) has appreciated our efforts to control it,” he said.

He also said that the decision of the British government to issue visas to Nepalis was an important achievement for the country. Deuba stressed on the need for timely improvement in educational management.

He said that education has been enshrined as a fundamental right in the constitution of Nepal and the government has been implementing the policy of making education compulsory and free. Stating that there is a direct link between literacy and prosperity, he said, “Literacy is the basis of prosperity. It is the responsibility of the government to make the people literate. The government is serious about this.”
