KATHMANDU, Dec 21: The government has urged one and all not to panic over the emergence of the new variant of coronavirus in India.


Spokesperson at the Ministry of health and Population, Dr Prakash Budhathoki, said there is no need to panic due the new variant of coronavirus seen in Kerala state of neighboring India. There is no situation to be worried as the infection seen in India is related to the respiratory system.


"Problems related to respiratory systems are now increasing in India and China. ICU, oxygen plants as well as other physical infrastructures constructed during COVID-19 pandemic can be used, if needed," he shared.

Budhathoki mentioned that although a new variant of coronavirus has been detected, there are no new symptoms in the new variant of coronavirus. He further added that the symptom related to respiratory problems is seen in the new variant. 


While health desks set up at border checkpoints and international airports have been kept in standby position, the government has requested to put patients with respiratory problems under special supervision, he added.


Spokesperson Budathoki informed that patients suffering from respiratory problems for a long time have been recommended to undergo a gene sequencing.


The World Health Organisation has confirmed the new variant of COVID-19 in Kerala State of India.
