Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Ramesh Lekhak said that the government will not allow heavy vehicles to ply the BP Highway.
A committee formed by the ministry has recommended not to allow heavy vehicles on the highway. “But the ministry has not taken any decision in this regard,” he said talking to Republica.
He further said that the government has relaxed the requirement for route permits for the time being. “The strict rule has been relaxed keeping the festival season in mind,” he said.
He also promised stringent action against vehicles which carry more passengers than seat capacity. “The ministry is committed to taking legal action against vehicles that flout the rule.” The driving license and route permit will be suspended for six months if any vehicle is found carrying more passengers than seat capacity, he said.
