KHOTANG, Nov 7: CPN (UML) General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel has said an individual possessing the naturalized citizenship should not be allowed for the appointment as the head of state or the government.
Speaking at a press meet organized by Press Chautari Nepal, Khotang at Diktel today, he said it would be against the interests of the nation if any individual holding the naturalized citizenship is allowed to contend for the race for the presidency or the prime minister as it curtailed the rights of natives.
"A system that is nowhere in practice is also not possible in Nepal," he said, adding that the party would always stand against such system.
The UML general secretary, who is in Khotang in connection to the party people's mobilization campaign aimed at facilitating the constitution implementation, said conspiracies were being hatched against the government plan of holding the elections.
Though the constitution is an amendable document, matters need to be amended have not been formally presented yet, he said, urging the ruling partners to come up with a clear proposal for its amendment after holding discussions at the political level.
On a different note, he said the appointment of CIAA Chief (now suspended) Lokman Singh Karki was dragged into controversy since the very beginning. His appointment was made unwarily and the party had opposed the appointment of the controversial person to the CIAA Chief post.
Commenting over courtesy shown by the government during the Indian President recent Nepal visit in the name of security, he said that was unbecoming. RSS
