KATHMANDU, July 13: A no confidence motion has been registered against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Parliament on Wednesday. CPN (Maosit Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is the proposer of the motion while Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is the seconder.
As many as 254 lawmakers have signed against the motion. Those signing against the motion are 183 lawmakers from the NC, 68 from CPN (Maoist Center) and three from the CPN United.
NC Chief whip Chin Kaji Shrestha and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara had reached the Legislature-Parliament in Baneshwar.
They registered the no-trust motion against the government with General Secretary of the Legislature-Parliament Manohar Prasad Bhattarai.
As many as 254 lawmakers have signed against the motion. Those signing against the motion are 183 lawmakers from the NC, 68 from CPN (Maoist Center) and three from the CPN United.
The remaining lawmakers of the NC and CPN (Maoist Center) are now signing the motion.
The minimum number of votes to register a no confidence motion in Parliament is 151. At present 254 lawmakers have signed the motion.
The NC and the Maoist Center togetehr have 288 seats in Parliament. They need the support of 10 more lawmakers to form a simple majority government.
A meeting of the NC and the CPN (Maoist Center) held this morning had given Prime Minister KP Sharman Oli an ultimatum to resign before 3 pm today.
As Oli did not resign within the given time, the no confidence motion was registered.
