KATHMANDU, Feb 24: Nepal Medical Council (NMC) has published its annual report for the financial year 2022/023. Through the report, the NMC has introduced a new code of conduct for doctors.

According to the new code of conduct, doctors’ licenses could be suspended for two months to two years in situations such as the death of a patient due to a doctor’s negligence, if the doctor conducts treatment without formal knowledge and skills of the related disease, if the treatment is prohibited by law, if he acts under financial influence, and if he acts against his qualifications.

Similarly, the NMC has decided to create an urgent task force to investigate the criminal charges against any doctor and proceed with the investigation process. It has been decided to give the responsibility to the Ministry of Health and Population to comply with the Security of the Health Workers and Health Organizations Act 2066 BS.

Similarly, while providing radiology services, it has been decided that radiology services and reporting in cases other than life-saving situations should only be done by experts who have graduated from recognized educational institutions and are recognized by the NMC.

It has been decided that the public prosecutor should register the case only after the investigation report by the expert doctor committee appointed by the NMC during actions related to the medical negligence or error that may occur during treatments. The NMC has taken various other decisions as well.

NMC Registrar Krishna Prasad Adhikari ordered the disclosure of the complaints and actions taken against doctors.
