KATHMANDU, August 17: The National Independent Party (NIP) which is led by Ravi Lamichhane, has decided not to participate in the upcoming provincial elections. Lamichhane has informed through social media that the party has decided not to participate in the provincial assembly election scheduled to be held on November 20.

"According to the decision of the Central Committee, we will only participate in the direct and proportional elections of the federal level out of the two levels of elections scheduled for November 20,” said Lamichhane in his social media post.

Lamichhane said that the party will not participate in the provincial elections as the party has criticized the state structure in the gatherings held across the country and that participating in the provincial government is nothing but participating in the exploitation of state funds.

Lamichhane mentioned that the existing provincial structure should be improved. He has also presented a proposal as to what kind of provincial structure should be made. The party has proposed to have a directly elected Chief Minister in the province.
