KATHMANDU, April 27: A meeting of the coalition of nine political parties on Thursday decided against the endorsement of the constitution amendment proposal registered in Legislature-Parliament with the conclusion that the proposal was against the country and the people.

The meeting that took place at CPN-UML's parliamentary party office at Singha Durbar also concluded that the UML would play its role in defeating the proposal, said UML parliamentary party deputy leader Subash Nembang.

"We (UML) will participate in the amendment process, but the coalition will also propose amendment to the constitution amendment. Efforts will be made to defeat the proposal and the UML will take a leadership in this regard alongside other alliance partners," said Nembang.

The meeting also discussed the incident wherein the government recalled the communication sent by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development for the revision of the number of local units in 11 districts.

Going against the government's decision to hold the local level elections in two phases, Nembang said the alliance had taken the government's step to move forward the local level revision issue only in agreement with the opposition as a positive move.

Also the meeting discussed the issue of the unification of the coalition for the polls and for that UML seemed positive, said another participant CPN (ML) General Secretary CP Mainali.
The nine-political party alliance includes UML, ML, Rastriya Janamorcha, Nepal Workers Peasants Party, Nepal Pariwar Dal, Madhes Janata Party, Madhes Samata Party, Bahujan Janata Party and Nepa Rastriya Party. RSS
