NICCI elects new executive committee

KATHMANDU, May 29: The 26th and 27th annual general meetings of Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NICCI) have unanimously elected a president and nine executive members for the next two years. The AGM held in Kathmandu on May 26 elected Shreejana Rana representing Hotel Annapurna unanimously to the post of NICCI President. 

The nine executive members elected unanimously include Achyut Kharel (Samanantar Nirman Sewa Pvt Ltd), Arun KC (ABC Multipurpose Trade Pvt Ltd), Hem Raj Dhakal (IME Automotives Pvt Ltd), Harkirat Singh Bedi (Dabur Nepal Pvt Ltd), Kunal Kayal (General Insurance Co Nepal Ltd), Mahesh Bahadur Basnet (Mandakini Hydropower Ltd), Ramesh Sharma (Sharma & Company Pvt Ltd), Saibal Ghosh (Berger Jenson & Nicholson Nepal Pvt Ltd) and Sunil KC (Asia Corporation Pvt Ltd)

Similarly, the chief guest of the event, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Narayan Khadka inaugurated the AGM and highlighted the Nepal-India bilateral relations and the cooperation extended by the Indian government to Nepal as being important for the economic development of Nepal.

Likewise, the special guest of the event, Suresh Pravu, Member of Parliament and Former Minister of Railway, Power, Industry and Commerce, Government of India, highlighted the importance of remittance, a major source of foreign currency for the country. According to him, the manpower that is going abroad from Nepal should be skilled so that they earn better and can send more foreign currency to the country in the form of remittance. This will also help to manage the current economic crisis in the short term, he said. 

Former ambassador of India to Nepal, Ranjit Rae also highlighted the areas where Nepal needs to focus, like, hydropower, tourism, agriculture, education, healthcare, IT sector and a few more “as they can change the scenario of economic development.”

Prasanna Srivastava, Consular at the Embassy of India, FNCCI President Shekhar Golchha, CNI President Vishnu Agrawal, and Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) President Rajendra Malla also expressed their views and wished NICCI for future collaboration and success.
