KATHMANDU, July 14: Newly-appointed Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has decided to allocate Rs 5 billion for the Ministry of Health and Population to procure COVID-19 vaccines.

Assuming his office today, Sharma decided to provide Rs 5 billion to procure COVID-19 vaccines to the health ministry.

The new government formed under the leadership of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has committed to vaccinate one-third of the population of the country by mid-October and vaccinate the entire eligible population by the end of 2078 BS.

Finance Minister Sharma has also decided to ensure resources for the management of liability under COVID-19 control and prevention. Under which, the government will provide Rs 564,100,000 to central hospitals, Rs 373,490,000 to hospitals operated by provincial and local governments.

Likewise, the government has also pledged Rs 961,211,000 to central and private hospitals and Rs 524,440,000 to hospitals at provincial and local levels, according to spokesperson for the Finance Ministry, Mahesh Acharya.
