KATHMANDU, April 9: Increasing urbanization is eroding Newari settlements in the Kathmandu Valley. A major earthquake that rattled Kathmandu Valley in April 2015 destroyed many original, historical and archaeological heritages in the Valley.
The contribution of Newars in the history of Nepal is incomparable. The historical and archeological importance of Kathmandu Valley is still enlivened by Newari art, culture, language and lifestyle.
Typical Newari settlements, language, and art have attracted the attention of the entire world. Here are some pictures of renowned settlements including Khokana, Bungmati, Kirtipur, Thecho, Siddhipur Lubhu, and Patan that are standing tall to this day despite haphazard urbanization.
