New wave of Covid-19 cases in Nepal may peak in June, warns Health Minister Tripathi

KATHMANDU, April 5: Minister for Health and Population, Hridayash Tripathi has warned that a new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country could reach its peak in June if necessary precautionary measures are not taken in advance.

KATHMANDU, April 5: Minister for Health and Population, Hridayash Tripathi has warned that a new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country could reach its peak in June if necessary precautionary measures are not taken in advance. 


Addressing a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday, Minister Tripathi  said that the rate of COVID-19 infection, which went down from October last year, started rising from the Mid-January.  


“If we fail to effectively implement and abide by the public health protocols against this viral infection, current trend indicates that the country might witness another peak in June later this year,” he said.

On the occasion, Minister Tripathi also announced that at least six million people will be vaccinated by mid-July. 


Country adds 266 new COVID-19 cases on Monday


Meanwhile, a total of 266 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the past 24 hours in the country. 


With this, the total caseload has reached 278,210 in the country.   According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 102 persons infected with COVID-19 have recovered in the country on Monday.  The total number of recoveries has reached 273,342 in the country till April 5.  


Ministry further shared that there are 1,832 active cases of the virus infection across the country. Four infected patients have died in the past 24 hours.  The COVID-19 death toll is 3,036 so far in Nepal.
