New Education Act in the pipeline

KATHMANDU, Nov 17: In a bid to replace the existing Education Act, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) is preparing to draft a Federal Education Act.

KATHMANDU, Nov 17: In a bid to replace the existing Education Act, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) is preparing to draft a Federal Education Act.


According to the MoEST, a committee headed by Joint-secretary Surya Prasad Gautam is working to prepare the draft of the new education act.

“We have formed the panel to draft the Federal Education Act,” said Baikuntha Prasad Aryal, spokesperson for the MoEST. “The draft is in its preliminary stage,” he added.


The ministry will prepare the new integrated Education Act in line with the federal structure, said Spokesperson Aryal. “All education related acts including those governing scholarships will be integrated in the Federal Education Act. However, the qualifications of teachers required to teach students of various levels are yet to be determined in the preliminary draft the Federal Education Act,” he added.


Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Giriraj Mani Pokherel has said time and again that the Federal Education Act will be an integrated education act.The High level National Education Commission is also working to recommend for developing education policies and acts.
