New Diamond lifts Didibahini Cup

PARBAT, March 12: New Diamond Academy has lifted the title of Didibahini Cup Women's Volleyball Tournament on Sunday defeating Armed Police Force (APF) in the summit clash.

To win the first edition of the tournament, New Diamond registered 3-1 win over departmental side APF. 

Champion New Diamond bagged a purse of Rs 100,000 while the runner-up APF was rewarded with Rs 60,000.

In the final match played in Kushma, headquarters of Parbat district, APF made solid start winning the first set 25-21, but couldn't keep the rhythm and lost the remaining sets.

To win the final match, New Diamond then won two remaining sets with 25-22 and 25-20.
 
After the victory, New Diamond's skipper Lalita Nath said that the summit clash against APF wasn't tough. “It was an easy win. The team spirit was very good and the coordination between the players worked well,” said Lalita Nath. 

Meanwhile APF captain Binita Budhathoki said that her team lost because the players failed to settle well in the court. 

Nepal Police Club claimed third place in the tournament defeating departmental rival Tribhuvan Army Club in straight sets -- 25-17, 26-24, 25-19 -- in the third placed play-off.

Police bagged Rs 30,000 for wrapping the tournament in third position. 

In the meantime, Pratibha Mali of New Diamond was declared the most valuable player and was rewarded with cash prize of Rs 5000.

Similarly, APF's Saraswati Chaudhary and Reshma Bhandari were announced best spiker and server respectively while New Diamond's Lalita Nath was given best quicker award.

Likewise, police duo Kopila Upreti and Kamala Pun were declared the best blocker and defender respectively while the award of best lifter went to Army's Janaki Bhandari.

Kumar Rai who guided New Diamond to the title was announced as the best coach.

All the best players in each position alongside best coach were rewarded with Rs 3000.
