Nepse rises 17.42 points on Tuesday, backed by notable trading of shares of hydropower companies

KATHMANDU, Feb 22: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Tuesday rose by 17.42 points, backed by a soaring demand for the stocks related to the hydropower companies.

Of the top 10 gainers, seven were related to hydropower development, according to Nepse. Mailung Khola Jal Vidyut Company ranked the topmost gainer on the intraday trading.

United Idi-Mardi RB Hydropower Limited, Samling Power Company, Terhathum Power Company, Barun Hydropower Company, Ghalemi Hydro Limited, and Nyadi Hydropower Limited were among the highest gainers with a notable rise in their share prices. Likewise, hydropower, among the 13 trading groups, witnessed a rise of 27.56 points.

In recent days, the secondary market has been impacted mainly by the government’s move to ratify the US-funded Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement through parliamentary process. On Monday, too, the major gainers were from the hydropower group.

In Tuesday’s trading, the market opened at 2,718.51 points. The market rose as high as 2,750.09 points before closing at 2,735.93 points.

Except for manufacturing and investment, the remaining 11 groups were the gainers. The average share prices of non-life insurers increased by 128.02 points.

The single-day turnover stood at Rs 3.21 billion, an increase from Rs 2.99 billion on Monday. With a transaction of shares worth Rs 214.96 million, Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited was posted at the topmost position in the category.
