Nepse increased by 29.42 points, while share investors gained Rs 42 billion last week

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) last week increased 29.42 points after the government took full shape with the expansion of the cabinet led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

In a three-day trading session, the secondary market opened at 2,149.39 points on Tuesday and closed at 2,178.81 points on Thursday. In the trading days, the market went as high as 2,214.39 points, while the index hit as low as 2,136.61 points. Overall, the market witnessed fluctuations of 77.78 points.

The market started with a double-digit gain of 32.72 points on Tuesday. However the market could not maintain its charm for the investors in the remaining trading days.  On Wednesday, the market took a slight fall of 9.01 points. On Thursday the market increased marginally by 5.71 points.

Three out of the 13 trading groups lost in their average share prices last week. These included banking, manufacturing and processing and trading. Of the gainers, hydropower had their market value increased by 177.63 points, the largest of all.

The total turnover stood at only Rs 11.69 billion compared to Rs 23.91 billion in the previous week. The average daily turnover stood at Rs 3.89 billion, down from Rs 4.78 billion. Market capitalization increased marginally from Rs 3.103 trillion to Rs 3.145 trillion. 

Among individual companies, Ridi Power Company Limited had the largest transaction of its shares worth Rs 571.48 million. Green Ventures Limited was the top gainer, while Kumari Dhanabriddhi Yojana was the top loser.
