Nepse inches up 5.54 points, daily turnover drops below Rs 1 billion on Monday

KATHMANDU, April 10: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Monday increased marginally by 5.54 points to close at 1,844.02 points.

The secondary market which opened at 1,838.48 points, surged to 1,847.92 points and hit the day’s low at 1,833.56 points in the first hour of trading. In the next moment, the market reached as high as 1,851.29 points, followed by a successive fall in the remaining trading time.

According to stockbrokers, investors are still not fully content with the Supreme Court's lenient policy to license new brokerage companies and an alternative stock exchange. “Investors look for government intervention compelling the sector’s regulator to do accordingly as ordered by the apex judicial body,” said a stockbroker.

Only the finance group lost in its index in the intraday trading. Of the 12 gainers, hotels and tourism added the largest of 53.51 points in their index.  

A total of 133 listed companies had an increase in their market prices, while 77 others were registered as losers. The sensitive index that measures the performance of the blue chips companies gained 0.88 points.

The daily turnover amount again dropped below Rs 1 billion. It stood at Rs 911.97 million, down from Rs 1.159 billion on Sunday.   

In individual companies, Shivam Cements carried out transactions of its shares worth Rs 68.41 million and was at the top of the list. Sanima Middle Tamor Hydropower Limited was the highest gainer, while Global IME Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd lost the highest percent of its market value.
