KATHMANDU, Oct 2: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the national development would be possible when the nation follows the path of Buddha and Mahata Gandhi. 

Speaking at a programme organized by Taxshila Academy on the occasion of International Day of Non- Violence today, he said that non-violent movement of Gandhi had stopped the influence of the then British empire. 

Leader Deuba further opined for stopping violent movement from the world. 

Similarly, former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand stressed the importance of non-violence to make happy and prosperous society. 

Likewise, CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Dinanath Sharma said that discrimination among the people was the symbol of violence and it should be eradicated from the society. 

The academy Principal Prof Dr Jayraj Acharya shared that United Nations' General Assembly in 1907 had decided to mark the day on October 2 as the International Non-Violence day and has been marking across the world since the date. 

On the occasion, Nepali version of the Gandhi's Outstanding Leadership was released. The book was written by Indian diplomat Pascal Alan Nazareth. 

The book was translated by Karna Prakhar Dhital and Kishor Nepal. The book was released on the occasion of Gandhi Memorial Day today. 

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi while releasing the book, said that the peaceful and trustful way would be enough for social transformation. 

Similarly, Indian ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae said that Gandhi was the icon of world peace. 

The book writer Nazareth said that the book has exposed that Gandhi was not only the icon of peace, saying that he was the worshiper of Truth as well. RSS
