JANAKPURDHAM, June 3: A fire broke out on a Nepali train coming from Jayanagar to Janakpur after acid was spilled in one of the compartments.

While leaving Jayanagar at 3:15PM on Thursday, acid spilled from the luggage compartment when the train reached the gate number 1 of Jayanagar station and there was a stampede of passengers to leave the compartment.

Indian police have arrested a mother and her daughter on suspicion of bringing the acid and handed them over to Nepal Police. The woman’s husband managed to flee along with the acid after the incident. According to the General Manager of the Railway Company, Niranjan Jha, they are looking for him.

“Someone had placed acid in the luggage compartment. As it got spilled, a few drops fell on a woman’s body and she screamed and ran away from the seat,” said Niranjan Jha. He said, “As the acid fell in the compartment, smoke came from the place. The passengers were even more frightened when they saw the smoke."

He added, “After the fire started, the train was stopped and the situation was brought under control. No major damage has been done to the train. It has reached Janakpur safely.”
