Nepali Pratibha Pratisthan honors litterateur Rajendra Bimal and poet Bimala Tumkhewa

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: Nepali Pratibha Pratisthan, UK, has honored senior litterateur Dr Rajendra Bimal and poet Bimala Tumkhewa for their contributions to the field of literature.

Bimal and Tumkhewa were handed over certificates and cash prizes of Rs 50,000 and Rs 100,000, respectively, amid a function in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Dr Bimal, who hails from Janakpur has written several books on literature and linguistics including a few in the Maithili language. He is considered someone dedicated to the promotion and development of regional as well as Nepali languages.

Likewise, Tumkhewa, who hails from Tehrathum, is popular among youths for her feminist views and activism. Her poetry celebrates womanhood, humanity and equality.

Speaking at the event, Ganga Prasad Upreti, chancellor of Nepal Academy, among others, reminded that art and literature reflects every community's and country's identity, which is why, such acts of appreciation of writers and artists, is praiseworthy.

The academy based in the UK was founded in 2008. Since then, it has honored dozens of Nepalis for their contributions to music, art and literature.
