Nepali officials to participate in Korean agro-training

KATHMANDU, July 14: Twelve Nepal government officials are participating in “Advanced Agricultural Production Technology and Enhancement of Global Competitiveness” (AAPTEG) to be held in Republic of Korea from July 3, 2016 to July 19, 2016.

The prime objective of the training program is to raise the specialists for high quality agricultural production and for meat, milk processing, to strengthen Nepal’s global competitiveness and to increase the agricultural products safety and establishment of processing and marketing system.

The program includes a series of sessions and group discussions, field visits on Korea’s agricultural sector. This is one of the multiyear training programs which started from 2015 and will last until 2017.

By the end of 2017, 36 officials will have been trained on advanced agricultural production technology.

At an orientation program for the participants held at the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Nepal Office on June 27, this year, KOICA Country Director Dr Hyungkyoo Kim shed light on raising the Nepali context to find the solution to various problems faced by the agriculture sector.

He expressed his hope that their stay in Korea will be informative and the participants will be better equipped with new knowledge and will be responsible for promoting agricultural development in Nepal.

In 2015, KOICA invited more than 131 Nepali governmental officials to Korea in different development courses which are long and short term courses especially focused in education, health, governance, ICT, rural development, industry and energy, among others.

In a bid to share the experience and knowledge acquired over the course of Korea’s own development with partner countries, KOICA is increasing the number of fellowship programs that are based on the specific needs of partner countries.

The former trainees of KOICA have formed KOICA Alumni Association of Nepal (KAAN) with an aim to share Korean knowledge in their respective fields and to work as a bridge between Korea and Nepal.

It has now more than 200 members. Similarly, under KOICA’s scholarship program more than 60 government officials have received Master’s Degree from renowned Korean Universities. Many of them are actively involved in KAAN activities.
