KATHMANDU, Nov 14: Nepali photographers have organized a two-week photo exhibition in Witzenhausen, Germany that began on November 11.  The exhibition titled ‘Nepal – Daily life, Culture and Landscape’ features a set of 30 photographs by Chandra Shekhar Karki, senior photographer; Aishu Mathema and Deepak Tolange, who are also the organizers and curators of the exhibition.

According to a press statement, the exhibition has been attended by government representatives, professors and international students, including a good number of locals from Witzenhausen. Quoting Deepak Tolange, the press statement added, “The exhibition worked in different levels. First, it provided a platform for Nepali photographers abroad to showcase their work. Second, the collection of photographs portrays Nepal’s diversity that helps attract tourists to our country.”

As much as 50 percent money from the sale of the photos and postcards will go to realize the ‘Motivational Program’ planned for 2018. The group had organized a similar program at a brick kiln in Bhaktapur on March 18. Photos taken by children working in the brick kiln were exhibited at the program. ‘Dust’, an ethnographic film made in the area was shown to the people before the team donated masks, gloves and art materials to the kids. The purpose of the ‘Motivational Program’ is to encourage children to continue their education, the statement read.

The exhibition is taking place at the Lebens Wertstatt gallery and is supported by DITSL Witzenhausen and Lebens Werte Witzenhausens. After the show, the photos will be exhibited at a museum in Witzenhausen for three months.
