KATHMANDU, Aug 11: A survey on Civil Society Organization Sustainability Index (CSOSI) has ranked Nepal in fourth position after the Philippines, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

Nepalese civil society organizations (CSOs), according to the report, scored relatively low in their organization capacity, advocacy, service provision, infrastructures and public images out of seven dimensions. Nepal's performance was good with regard to legal environment and financial viability.

The survey conducted by USAID in association with the Management System International measures the strengths and overall viability of the CSOs in more than 69 countries of the Eastern Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle and North Africa.

This year, seven countries from South East Asia -- Nepal, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand—were surveyed. Surveyed countries are evaluated based on legal environment, organizational capacity, financial viability, advocacy, service provision, infrastructure and public image of CSOs.
