NC urges govt to evacuate Nepali nationals from China's Wuhan immediately

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: The main opposition Nepali Congress on Friday urged the government to evacuate Nepali nationals living in Wuhan immediately. 

Making a public appeal, NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba said that the government's apathy towards evacuating more than 100 Nepali nationals including students is regrettable. China's Wuhan is the epicenter of the coronavirus epidemic. 

"Many countries around the world have already started evacuating their compatriots from the Chinese city of Wuhan, therefore, the Nepal government should take steps to evacuate Nepali nationals from there immediately," he stated.

Deuba also suggested the government to establish separate shelters in advance to keep Nepali nationals for medical tests once they are evacuated and brought back home from Wuhan.

"The government should establish a separate treatment center in Kathmandu to carry out treatment to suspected coronavirus patients," he said.

The NC president also urged the government is to establish health desks at Nepal's all international border points to prevent the spread of coronavirus. 

In his statement, Deuba lauded the Chinese government's ongoing efforts to combat the coronavirus outbreak while extending condolences to the Chinese government and families of those Chinese citizens who lost their lives due to the novel virus.

The NC president suggested the government take precautionary measures keeping in mind the World Health Organization's global health emergency and efforts taken by various countries to prevent from spreading the coronavirus.

In his public appeal, Deuba said that the government should disseminate information regarding the early warning system and other risks keeping in mind the possibility of coronavirus spread.   He urged various political parties, organizations and media to play crucial role in disseminating information regarding the same.
