KATHMANDU, Jan 16: The opposition Nepali Congress (NC), is staging a nationwide protest against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) in all 753 local units of the government on Saturday.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba has appealed to one and all to actively participate in the protest against the unconstitutional move of the government to dissolve the Lower House of the federal parliament.
Earlier, NC organized protest programs in all local and provincial electoral constituencies demanding the restoration of parliament.
While the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has witnessed a vertical split following the government’s decision to dissolve parliament, NC is awaiting the decision of the apex court over the writ petitions filed against the dissolution of parliament. NC has been maintaining that it will respect the court’s decision whether it is in favor of restoration of parliament or not.
The case of House dissolution is currently sub judice at the apex court.
NC, which was the main opposition party before dissolution of parliament, is staging protests and preparing for midterm elections scheduled for April 30 and May 10 at the same time.
Top leaders of the party are scheduled to reach different local government units across the country to address the party's protest programs against the dissolution of parliament.
