Nepali Congress lawmaker Chhantyal passes away

KATHMANDU, July 1: Nepali Congress parliamentarian Gyan Kumari Chhantyal passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at Sahid Gangalal National Heart Centre in the capital.

She was 66. Chhantyal was a parliamentarian under the proportional representation category in the House of Representatives (HoR). She had been suffering from heart disease and was admitted to Sahid Gangalal National Heart Centre last month.

The lower and upper houses of the federal parliament passed separate condolence motions on her demise on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee presided over by the party president Sher bahadur Deuba passed a condolence motion on the demise of its lawmaker Chhantyal. The meeting has expressed grief on the passing of Chhantyal.

She was elected to the second Constituent Assembly (CA) from the Baglung election constituency 3 in the Second CA elections. Chhantyal was born in 1957 in Dhorpatan Municipality-1, Burtibang of Baglung district. She had joined Nepali Congress in 1990.
