Nepali Congress expresses sorrow over massive fire in Kalikot

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: The Nepali Congress on Monday expressed sorrow over the massive fire that broke out at Khada village of Palata Rural Municipality in Kalikot district on Sunday night.

In a press statement, the major opposition urged the government to launch rescue operations, provide immediate relief and arrange temporary shelter to the displaced families after the fire. The party also wished for speedy recovery of the injured people. At least 87 houses were destroyed while seven local residents injured due to the massive fire.

The fire broke out at local resident Nabin Neupane’s house at around 2 am and spread to other houses of the village, according to Laxman Bahadur Bam, the chairman of Palata Rural Municipality.

Earlier, the authorities said that 30 houses were burnt down in the fire. Karki informed that they are yet to ascertain the cause behind the incident.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Devendra Malla told Republica Online that three separate police teams have been deployed to douse the fire. “The fire has not come under control yet,” he added.
