Nepali Congress agent beaten at Dolpa; security demanded

DOLPA, Nov 23: Around 30 CPN-UML cadres led by Sher Bahadur Buda and Angad Rana attacked two Nepali Congress agents and tied them to trees whole night at Chakartasog rural municipality of Dolpa.

Sher Bahadur and Angat Rana are coordinators of District Coordination Committee and chairperson of Kaile rural municipality respectively.

The cadres attacked Surya Tamata and Jiwan Bhandari and tore their ‘agent letter’, Angad Kumar Buda, representative of Nepali Congress for the House of Representatives said. Buda accused the police of being just mute spectator on the incident.

Jiwan Bhandari sustained severe injuries on his left foot while Surya sustained minor injuries. Both are undergoing treatment at Dolpa Hospital. Keshav Raj Acharya, Chief District Officer, Dolpa has condemned the attack. 

Citing weak security, Nepali Congress has urged the Chief District Officer and Election Officer to postpone elections in all election booths of Kaile, Chakartasog and Dolpa Budhha rural municipality of Upper Dolpa. He warned that if security were not stepped up, the party would boycott the elections.

Acharya said that arrangements were being made for the agents to stay at the place and police were deployed to arrest those involved in the incident.
