KATHMANDU, Sept. 27: The governments of Nepal and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reached an agreement to revise the existing labor agreement so that both the nations would get maximum benefits. 

During a meeting between Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista and Ambassador of UAE to Nepal Saeed Hamdan Al Naqei on Wednesday, the two sides agreed to do groundwork for the revision of the labor agreement and form a technical team soon. 

During the meeting, Minister Bista urged the UAE envoy to create an environment for zero recruitment fees for the Nepali migrant workers adding that Nepali migrants working in UAE should be insured for round the clock and be given minimum wages as agreed in the labor contract, according to a press note issued by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security. 

Likewise, Minister Bista added that the health checkups of the migrant workers should be accepted in any of the health institutions based on the fixed standards set by the government. 

Saying that the UAE government should be sensitive for the cause of welfare and facilities of Nepalis working in UAE to ensure them a sense of happiness and pride, Minister Bista called for continued coordination and bilateral talks to further strengthen Nepal-UAE relations. 

In response, the UAE ambassador said that the government of UAE was positive towards the concerns expressed by the Nepal government and stressed for common efforts of both the countries to make the labor relations exemplary. RSS
