Nepal's COVID-19 tally surpasses 36,000-mark as 927 new cases recorded in past 24 hours

KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Nepal's COVID-19 tally surpassed the 36,000-mark on Friday with 927 new cases of coronavirus recorded in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) said.

At a virtual press briefing, Jageshwar Gautam, the spokesperson for the MoHP, said that 927 persons tested positive for the virus while carrying out 10,229 PCR tests at various labs across the country in the past 24 hours.

"With new cases of coronavirus reported in the past 24 hours, the country's total number of coronavirus infections has risen to 36,456," Gautam said.

The Kathmandu Valley reported 415 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, according to Spokesperson Gautam. Of the three districts in the Valley, Kathmandu alone recorded 350 new cases of COVID-19, Lalitpur recorded 11 new cases and Bhaktapur recorded 54 new cases.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus recovery rate has been declining every day. Only 169 persons who earlier tested positive for the virus were discharged after full recovery in the past 24 hours. "With 169 new cases of recovery, the country's total number of recoveries stands at 20,242," Spokesperson Gautam said. 

Gautam said that the COVID-19 death toll in Nepal has risen to 195 with 12 fatalities linked to coronavirus in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours.
