Nepal reports 899 new cases of coronavirus in past 24 hours, taking national COVID-19 tally to 39,460

KATHMANDU, Aug 31: As many as 899 new coronavirus infections were detected across the country in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) said. 

At a regular media briefing, Jageshwar Gautam, the spokesperson for the MoHP, said that 899 persons tested positive for COVID-19 while conducting 11,490 PCR tests at various labs across the country in the past 24 hours. Of the newly-infected, 596 are males and 303 are females, according to Gautam. 

"With this figure, the number of people to be infected with COVID-19 has reached 39,460," Spokesperson Gautam said. The Kathmandu Valley alone recorded 298 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, he said. 

At least 588 persons who earlier tested positive for the virus were discharged from various isolation centers across the country after full recovery in the past 24 hours, he said. "With this, the country's COVID-19 recovery tally stands at 21,410," Gautam said. 

Nepal has recorded at least seven coronavirus-linked deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the toll to 228, the spokesperson added.
