KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Nepal recorded a record daily jump of 2,020 coronavirus infections on Friday, taking the country’s national COVID-19 case tally to 61,593.

Sharing the country’s national updates on COVID-19, Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that 2,020 new cases of coronavirus were detected through 11,458 PCR tests conducted at various labs across the country in the past 24 hours.

“With this figure, Nepal’s coronavirus case tally has risen to 61,593,” Spokesperson Gautam said.

Nepal witnessed 2,000 plus fresh cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in a single day for the first time on Friday since the country reported the first coronavirus case on January 24 this year, authorities said.

The Kathmandu Valley alone witnessed 859 cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day spike of coronavirus cases as of today in the federal capital.

With the government lifting most of the restrictions imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus, the country has started seeing a growing number of coronavirus cases.

According to Spokesperson Gautam, 871 persons who earlier had tested positive for the virus were discharged after recovery in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours. “With this figure, the number of people to be discharged after recovery has climbed to 43,820,” he said.

There are currently 17,383 active cases of coronavirus across the country.

As the country is grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic, the nationwide coronavirus death toll has neared 400.

Seven people died of coronavirus across the country in the past 24 hours, taking the national coronavirus death toll to 390.
