Nepal nat’l women’s cricket team off to Thailand

KATHMANDU, Feb 17: Nepal national women’s cricket team has left for Thailand on Saturday to take part in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asian Region Qualifiers to start from Tuesday. 

Member Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC) Keshav Kumar Bista and men’s national team head coach Jagat Tamatta bid farewell to the team for the tournament which will run till February 27.  

Including Nepal and the host Thailand, the tournament comprises the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Hong Kong, Malaysia, Kuwait, and China. 

A 14-member women’s team led by Rubina Chhetri was announced on Friday in the tournament. Apsari Begam has made her place in the national team squad for the first time, with Doli Bhatta excluded from the team.

The squad comprises captain Chhetri, vice-captain Seeta Rana Magar, Karuna Bhandari, Sarita Magar, Nery Thapa, Indu Barma, Sonu Khadka, Arati Bidari, Kajal Shrestha, Roma Thapa, Kabita Kunwar, Mamata Kumari Chaudhary and Bindu Rawal. 

Anjali Chand, Ritu K mari Konujiya and Suman Bista are included as the optional players. 
The top two teams of the tournament will make their places in the Global Qualifiers.
