Nepal loses first match against Kenya by 5 wickets in ICC World League Championship (With Photo Features)

KATHMANDU, March 11: Nepal has lost its first match against Kenya by 5 wickets.

KATHMANDU, March 11: Nepal has lost its first match against Kenya by 5 wickets in ICC World League Championship on Saturday.


The game was reduced to 29 overs in the second innings as the match was halted by the heavy rain at the TU cricket ground and target run was revised to 104 by D/L method. Again the rain interrupted the match, at the time when Nepal was already 5 runs behind Kenya by D/L method. As the game resumed, again the match was reduced to 26 overs with revised target of 94 runs.


Kenya met the target with the loss of 5 wickets with 11 balls remaining.


For Kenya, RR Patel scored 34 runs (not out) off 52 balls that included 3 fours, CO Obuya hit 24 runs off 32 balls with 3 fours and Gurdeep Singh hit 12 runs (not out) off 19 balls with one four. Other batsmen could not score double digit run.

Sagar Pun and Sandeep Lamichchane took two wickets of Kenya, each giving away 8 and 21 runs respectively.


Earlier, sent in to bat after losing the toss, home team Nepal made 112 runs losing 8 wickets in 36 overs following the rain.


In the match played at the TU cricket ground, captain Gyanendra Mall scored highest 27 runs including five fours off 35 balls, Deependra Sing Airee contributed 19 runs off 56 balls, while Shakti Gauchan made 18 runs not out off 24 balls with 2 fours.


Electing to bat after winning the toss, Kenyan player SO Ngoche took highest 3 wickets giving away 18 runs whereas NM Odhiambo grabbed 2 wickets. 


With the drizzle continuing till Saturday morning the World Cricket League (WCL) between Nepal and Kenya had been uncertain. One Day International (ODI) between home team Nepal and Kenya was supposed to begin at 9:30 am, however, the match could start only at around noon.


Paras Khadka missed the game as he is yet to recover fully from the surgery for appendicitis he went undergone recently. 


Nepal is taking on Kenya in the second match ICC World Cricket League Championship on Monday.
